Ghosts Of War                                                                                                (John’s Thoughts in the Episode ‘Home’)

Nothing could’ve prepared me for when I looked into their eyes,                             To see them both alive again was a heart-wrenching surprise.

I remembered the day they had been killed just outside of Kabool,                        The day I begin to wonder why I thought flying choppers was cool.

They were killed in the line of duty they were casualties of war,                               But nothing can prepare a soldier for that first initial horror.

Of watching their best friends gunned down right before their eyes,                          To see the shrapnel spear their craft and imagine the woundeds cries.

But like any good soldier you try your best to leave the past behind,                   Because if you dwell to long on the losses you’ll someday lose your mind.

But seeing them both standing there right outside of my door,                            Made the memory of their death hit me like never before.

Then listening to Mitch and Dex prattle on just like times of old,                          Somewhere deep inside of me it made my blood run cold.

And there’s nothing quite like telling your best friends that they’re dead,                   As I realized that in the Pegasus Galaxy it’s a fine line that we tread.

For how can you be sure of what is real and what is fake,                                              If deluding someone’s mind is such a piece of cake.
